Position: Operations & Shop Coordinator
Employer: Herman Organ Company
Location: Baldwin Park, CA
Schedule: Part-time, 2–3 days per week, flexible scheduling
Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Herman Organ Company is dedicated to the restoration and care of historic pipe organs. We combine traditional craftsmanship with deep respect for the historical and musical significance of each instrument. As our business grows, we are seeking a part-time team member to help maintain organization and efficiency behind the scenes.

Position Summary:

This role combines workshop coordination, supply management, and key administrative support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working in a hands-on environment. Your efforts will help keep our shop running smoothly and allow our technicians to focus on their restoration work.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Maintain shop organization and cleanliness, including labeling and storage of parts and tools
·       Track, reorder, and restock supplies and consumables
·       Receive and inspect incoming materials and shipments
·       Help coordinate outgoing shipments and deliveries
·       Maintain accurate inventory records
·       Assist with scanning and organizing receipts and job-related paperwork
·       Prepare and send client invoices based on technician time logs and project documentation
·       Coordinate with our bookkeeper and management on bookkeeping and payroll logistics
·       Occasionally assist with light errands or project-related travel logistics

Qualifications:

·       Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
·       Ability to work independently and maintain structured systems
·       Familiarity with basic office software and digital file organization
·       Comfortable working around woodworking tools and in an active shop
·       Reliable, trustworthy, and detail-oriented
·       Experience with QuickBooks a plus but not required

Our team is committed to preserving their integrity through careful, thoughtful work that honors their original character while ensuring long-term reliability and musical excellence.

​Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Restoration Technician to join our team. This role involves a wide variety of tasks related to the restoration, rebuilding, and repair of pipe organ components. From leatherwork and woodworking to electrical wiring and mechanical assembly, this position offers the opportunity to work with your hands while contributing to the preservation of irreplaceable musical heritage. Training will be provided where needed, but candidates should bring a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a dedication to high-quality craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Restore and rebuild pipe organ components, including windchests, pneumatics, percussions, swell motors, and reservoirs
  • Perform woodworking, finishing, and leathering tasks using both traditional and modern tools
  • Assist with electrical wiring and soldering for console and relay systems
  • Clean and restore pipework of all types
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Pack, label, and prepare components for transport to and from job sites
  • Occasionally assist with on-site installation, tuning, or removal of organ parts
  • Follow company standards for preservation, safety, and workmanship

Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality craftsmanship
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Willingness to learn specialized restoration techniques
  • Prior experience in woodworking, leatherworking, mechanical repair, or musical instrument restoration is a plus but not required
  • Must be able to lift and move components weighing 30–50 lbs
